About me
Alison Courtney launched her millinery career in 2008 at the historic Block Arcade in Collins Street, Melbourne. Visiting tourists to Australia and buyers alike admired her fresh approach and distinct style. Her natural flair for beauty and balance combined with a sense of colour and design, are attributes which have gained high commendation from her peers and clients.
Ali’s love of fabric began at a very early age. While her mother selected fabrics for dressmaking, Ali would sit on the shop counter, touching and observing the colours and range of fabrics, from simple cottons to more elaborate satins, brocades and laces.
It was only natural for Ali to choose fabric as her main inspiration in her millinery. Fabric gives a further dimension through colour and texture. The sensation of touching and manipulating the fabric ensures delightful outcomes that would not otherwise be possible with traditional millinery techniques.
In 2010 one of Ali’s outstanding designs was awarded 1st Runner Up in Fashions on the Field at the 150th anniversary of the running of the Melbourne Cup.
Ali derives pleasure in creating unique, individualised headwear for her clients’ needs under the label "The Ali Way".
